History and version notes for Pacmans Return
--------------------------------------------
August 1993 - V1.0
------------------
First release - Sent to 17Bit PD library disk number 2665.
9th September 1994 - V1.1
-------------------------
Found out to my dismay that I had lost versions 2 and 3 of the main game
code and the updated versions of the screens editor. Not happy. Did a quick
fix on all the bugs I remembered from the released version doing the rounds
on 17bit disk library, and also revamped the code so that the options on
title screen could be accessed a little easier. Still needs some work
though.
Did some major speed changes on the compiled code so that it would work on
A1200 a lot slower so that game is actually a lot easier, hence playable
now ;)
Not a Public released version. Just sent to Oliver Sawtell for some
feedback and suggestions about revamping the game with better code and
procedures.. Need to know if peeps think it's worth recoding again ;)
10th September 1994 - V1.2
--------------------------
About halfway through the streamlining of all the code. Used a lot of new
tricks I've picked up since starting this game to shorten the code and gain
a greater speed out of it, although that wasn't the idea.. I actually
needed to slow it down ;) Fixed the options select finally. Redid the pause
mode. Adapted the installation so that only one assign is now needed to run
the game from any system. Removed AmosPro exclusive code not that it was
really nescessary. Took out a lot of the system bugs which weren't even
noticed when I recoded it before (amazing what you find when you look
around ;) ) Recompiled the code to run with built in Amos library so that
it will work on any system and not bomb out with no explanation if that
isn't present. Just some more tidying up to do, and then it's down to the
Beta testers from there.
13th November 1994 - V1.2 update
--------------------------------
This will probably be the final update to the game as I wish to move onto
other projects and don't really fancy rewriting the entire game which is
what it would need to make the game any better now..
The ghosts are now clearly highlighted when they are vulnerable.
New inteligence routines mean you'll never be able to avoid the ghosts now.
The pause game functions and the quit game code have all been fixed so the
game will not exit when you don't wish it too.
The high score table entry has been fixed to run slower so you can enter your
name with no problems in the compiled version ;)
The select options on title screen now work properly with the joystick.
Dynamic Speed system now implemented so that the game is a lot more playable,
and any lengthy pauses can now be exited with the fire button.
Major face lift on the presentation side including a Much nescessary new title
screen and a lot of rewritten graphic effects..
Sound now works properly and the music is selectable on the title screen.
All known bugs have been killed. The game is as stable as can be made. Never
crashed once on me in the final rigorous playtesting.
If there are some flaws in the game then I may be persuaded to do some minor
bug fixes if requested but there won't be any new versions of this game now. Watch
out for Dome which I am currently working on at this time and can also be file
requested from my BBS with the filenames Dome and DomeDisk for the archive and DMS
versions respectivly. Please do notify me of any errors or bug reports via the
previously stated methods..
NOTE: to run the game from Hard drive you will need to Assign Pacmans-Return: to
the full path of where the game and data files/dirs etc are.. And that's it.
Above all this game is Freeware.. I'd value comments more than cash from it although
if you really felt it was worth it then you can pay some dosh if you like ;) Enjoy...
Thanks to the following people who have recently given me much support since I
took a breather from the BBS scene to rework this game...
Mat Bettinson, Robert Dale, Martin Chantler, Michael Lysons, Gary Pearse, Oliver
Sawtell and especially Ron Lyon for much influence on getting back to the
programming even though he didn't realise he was doing it ;)
